| There are so many people to thank for our very successful summer at the Wells Museum! First, our student employee Damon Goodhew, who was funded through a grant from the Government of Canada’s Young Canada Works program. We also received a grant from the Province of BC’s Community Gaming Grants program which helps to keep the building heated and the lights on.We had excellent visitation and set records for sales and donations. Our corner entrance sign was refurbished with assistance from the Northern Development Initiative Trust’s Facade Improvement Grant. Thank you to NDIT, and to the District of Wells for administering that program and for your ongoing support. Also thanks to Caroline Anders for the lovely new plantings brightening up the front of the museum. |
We were thankful to receive a grant from the Quesnel Community Foundation for a new computer, a colour printer, and an ergonomic office chair. At right, society Secretary/Treasurer Judy Campbell, Damon Goodhew and Vice-president Mandy Kilsby show off the output from the new printer — a huge step up from our decade old equipment.![]() |
The WHS sponsored another very successful Community Market on August 17th in the ice rink pavilion. The participation of many community members and local organizations made this a great social gathering as well as a fund raiser for several organizations. Thank you to the Wells Hotel for supplying excellent food. |
| AND NOW THE REALLY BIG NEWS!!! |
![]() We are so happy to announce the ongoing support of Osisko Development for the Island Mountain Dry Rehabilitation Project. Osisko is supporting Phase 2 of the project with a grant of $40,000! Thank you Osisko! |
We have just learned that we will be the recipient of a Heritage Legacy Fund Grant from Heritage BC’s Conservation Program. They will be providing $30,000 towards Phase 2 of the Island Mountain Dry Rehabilitation Project !! It is wonderful to have this project recognized at the provincial level. The mining activity in Wells was a major contributor to the provincial economy during the Great Depression.![]() |
| With these two grants we are getting much closer to achieving our fund raising goals for Phase 2 of the project which we hope will be completed in 2026! This will see the building moved onto its new screw post foundation as well as replacing the north wall of the building, and bringing water and sewer services to the building. The necessary engineering drawings have been completed, along with a site survey, and the building permit applications have been submitted to the District of Wells. Then, in 2027, on to Phase 3 which will see us complete the artifact storage area and apartments in the interior of the building. |
| YOU CAN HELP!!!Giving Tuesday is a movement that invites people across the country to give back to their communities. Every year on the Tuesday after Black Friday, people pause to ask not “what can I get?” but “what can I give?” What started as a single day has become something far greater. Giving Tuesday now sparks generosity year-round, inspiring Canadians of all ages and backgrounds to strengthen their communities through acts of kindness, big and small. This Giving Tuesday, December 2nd, 2025, please consider helping us reach our fundraising goal for the Island Mountain Dry Project by clicking the donate button below. |
